Whether you have a small closet, or you have a large closet, they all require some form of organization. A smaller closet has the inherent issue of holding less things, so the need to purge items that you no longer want or need is an important first step, especially for the tiny closet, but this also holds true for a large closet. Here are 20 tips and hacks to help you totally organize your closet. LOOK BELOW on this page for all 20 tips and hacks.

#1 Step one on the road to organization

As with any organization project, step number one is usually the most important. The Purge. Before you go too crazy with all the pre-planning, start by sorting everything that you have in your closet into keep, toss, donate. Now you will have a better idea of what your organization system must be able to handle. Photo from Done And Done Home

#2 Setting up kids organization

Finding a way to maximize the use of space in your child's closet means coming up with some inventive ideas. Setting up the dual rods makes for double the hanging space for clothes. Building shelves and using baskets and bins also makes good use of space. For more go to HGTV

#3 Lingerie storage

#4 Hanging your jeans

Hanging your jeans on a hanger takes up plenty of space in your closet. A novel way to save space is to use hanging hooks. By placing the hook through the belt loops at the back of the jeans, this allows them to hang straight down, removing some of those creases. Original photo unknown.

#5 Pants storage

This is a slide out "drawer" that allows you to hang your pants over the rods, then be able to push them back into the closet. Excellent custom storage idea. Photo origin unknown.

#9 Hanging camisoles, sundresses, etc.

Hanging items such as camisoles, sundresses, or anything with thin straps can be difficult, as they easily slide off. A quick trick is to put rubber bands over the ends of the hangers to keep those light items hung. Original photo unknown.

#10 Closet storage bins

This example is certainly meant for children, but an adult can modify this for their own organization ideas. For the young ones, having removable bins allows them to have a specific place for their clothes. Pajamas in one, underwear in another, etc. Thanks to Better Home And Gardens

#11 Creating extra hanger space

Picture
When it comes to hangers, especially bulky wooden ones, they can take up lots of room on the closet hanging rod. You can easily add more space by using a soda pop tab. Insert one hanger in one hole of the tab, while placing a second hanger in the second hole. This will add more hanging space. But be wary of how often you do this. The rod may not be able to handle too much extra weight.
